After two earthworms have mated, the clitellum secretes the cocoon which forms a ring around the worm. The worm then backs out of the ring, and as it does so, injects its own eggs and the other worm's sperm into it. As the worm slips out, the ends of the cocoon seal to form a vaguely lemon-shaped incubator or cocoon in which the embryonic worms developRead more: Do_earthworm_reproduce_by_laying_eggs
If your earthworms are small enough and your platies are large enough, yes by all means feed them whole earthworms. If the worms are too big you can chop them up. I used to use a razor blade to chop them finely for the smaller fish. Once your fish have been eating earthworms for a while, you will notice their better allround health and condition and they will also get sick less often. Please remember to remove any left over, uneaten, chopped worm from the bottom of the tank within 1 hour of feeding them to the fish. They will polute the tank otherwise.

A low ESR is generally not of any particular concern. However it can occur with polycythaemia. this is a condition where too many red blood cells are produced, and with extreme leucocytosis, which is a condition where too many white blood cells are produced, as well as with some protein abnormalities.
