Though the goddess Artemis was said to protect many cities, and indeed there are a few named for her, Artemis herself traveled the wilderness with a band of immortal nymphs and mortal maiden companions. Few male hunters encountered her, fewer still had the wisdom to honor her - but many of these met with messy ends.
Artemis hunted with hunting dogs and her beloved stag, while using her silver bow and silver arrows. She also had a group of nymphs hunting along side her.

She was often accompanied by a group of nymphs known as the Artemisian Nymphs. Her main enemies included Actaeon, a hunter who accidentally stumbled upon her bathing, and the giant Orion, whom she eventually killed, often due to jealousy or rivalry over his hunting prowess. Additionally, she was known to oppose those who disrespected her or the natural world she protected.
