The last time Mt Fuji erupted was in 1707 A.D. It was one of the most powerful eruptions. It began in mid December and continued for weeks together. It lasted till January and etimates showed that over 700 million cubic ft of ash were spread a hundred kilometers away. Paces that were affected included were Sagami and Izu. Many volcanic vents were formed as a result of the blast. Hope this helps.
17-20 million on an average claiming 5 lives per year in the last 7 years
Yes people have died on Mt. Fugi - climbing it. However, I do not think that volcanic activity has directly killed anyone on Mt. Fugi in recorded memory (Fuji has experienced 16 eruptions since 781 A.D). Certainly the 1707 eruption did not kill anyone but people starved afterwards because of the disruption to agriculture.
