The new Congress now has 47 Republican senators.
Each state gets 2 US senators regardless of how large/small the state or how many/few people in the state. The senators can be from any party....the people of the state elect whomever they want.
In the current session which is about to end there are 53 which is a majority for the Democratic Party.
There are currently in December 2010, 26 democratic and 24 republican governors. Post election, in 2011 there will be 29 republican, 20 democrat and 1 independent governor.
It's easier to answer the question by how many years have the Republicans controlled both houses since 1950...the answer...only four...and two of those four the majority in the Senate was 51-49, a razor thin and actually Democrat controlled since at least four Republican senators were liberal in voting.
Right now there are no non-white Republicans, but there are only three Senators who aren't white: Roland Burris (D-Illinois),Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii), and Robert Menendez (D-New Jersey). The only Republican minority who served while Obama is president was Melquiades R. Martinez (R-Florida) who resigned on September 9, 2009.
Wyoming has two US Senators in the US Congress, as does every other US state.
