Earthquakes can cause very much damage. And landslides as well. I'm thinkin about going to Davis university but too afraid too get hit by a devastating earthquake. Percussions never be beside a window or any cabinets with metal or glass objects in them. For when the earthquake hits it shakes about everything and things go flying.
Every quake is different in how it moves and acts. Some rock and roll while others shift up and down. How strong it is makes a difference. I am a CA native and have been through several and each has been different. The best thing to do if one starts and you are inside is to get under a table or in the doorway ( the frame protects you). If you are outside get to an open space where things can't fall on you and sit down so you won't be knocked over.
Fires, toppled chimneys, crumpled wood-frame house, and twisted steel rails
It depends as both earthquakes and tornadoes vary greatly in severity. Most earthquakes are so weak that the can't even be felt, only detected by sensitive instruments. Some tornado will cause little or no damage. However, the worst earthquakes are more destuctive than the worst tornadoes, as they can cause much more widespread damage.
There are far more magnitude 2 or 3 earthquakes than magnitude 4 earthquakes. The small quakes just don't get noticed as much because they typically do little or no serious damage.
There have been many earthquakes in Turkey that lasted for varied periods. Most of the earthquakes have lasted for about 30 seconds leaving so many fatalities and so much damage.
Earthquakes can be very messy. Buildings collapse, and there are often fires because controlled fires such as those of a stove become uncontrolled when there is too much structural damage. Things stored in sealed containers can leak out. Pipes break. All of this leads to a certain amount of pollution.
There are fault lines in those areas, and when the earth's plates move, they cause earthquakes. There are two fault lines in San Francisco, but I do not know how much in Japan.
*volcanoes Earthquakes and vOlcanoes can cause much damage among an area if it's shaken to pieces.
North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa rarely have earthquakes and when they do, the earthquakes aren't usually strong enough to cause much damage.
There are a bunch of little earthquakes every minute. We don't even feel them! They don't cause any damage. The only way we know about these earthquakes is because seismographs (instruments used to detect seismic waves) detect the waves underground.
According to the British Geological Survey (BGS) the UK experiences several hundred earthquakes each year, however the vast majority of these are so small they are only detected by sensitive instruments known as seismometers. There are normally between 20 and 30 each year that are large enough to be felt by humans, but these typically don't cause much damage except for very rare occasions. For more information on UK earthquakes including some that have been powerful enough to cause damage to buildings, please see the related link.
Yes, volcano eruptions can cause earthquakes; they can also be caused by earthquakes or occur at the same time.Yes. Earthquakes are common around active volcanoes. They are usually triggered by the movement of magma beneath the earth and the fracturing of rock that results. However, volcanic earthquakes are not very large and generally do not cause much damage directly.
$400 million somettimes more
Indirectly yes. Earthquakes cause mass damage and destruction, depending on the severity. A lower level earthquake won't cause as much damage, might just be a slight rumble. But a higher level earthquake (a prime example being the one in Japan in 2011) will cause mass damage and possibly a Tsunami depending on the location. Earthquakes of high magnitudes can cause buildings to fall, bridges to collapse, and can kill thousands. Tsunamis make that number go up.
England is not that prone to earthquakes. However, there have also been some earthquakes that have caused damage but not as much damage compared to other parts of the world. The largest earthquake that hit the country was in 1931 with a magnitude of 6.1.

Earthquakes are, basically, caused by the sudden release of pressure that has built up in the under-laying rock strata. This sudden release sends shock ways radiating out from the epicentre, that shakes buildings and can cause much damage and loss of life.
