There really isn't a tattoo license. Maybe some states have it, but not where I'm at. The shop owner may require his own guidelines for his artists to have. If you go through an apprenticeship, you will learn how to do everything. You may also have some kind of medical certificate to show that you know how to take care of an open wound, apply wraps and that sort of thing. All the health management stuff. You would learn that regardless through an apprenticeship

Many states regulate tattoo shops and piercing locations through health laws. In all cases the individual has to be an adult in order to obtain the necessary licenses. The laws vary from state to state in the US. In general, with parental consent the age is 18, but without it you have to be 21 or older. And some states require the parent be present when the tattoo is done.

18 years old. Which is good because at a younger age you might get something silly like a smurf and at 21 you won't like it. Tattoos are forever so be sure what you get and think about it. I have 14 so I know what I am talking about.

18+ to be an apprentice, some shops may want someone 21 or older as well. Start making a file of your work because if you go to a shop they will want to see an example of your art.
