He did paint the Old Testament scenes in the Sistine Chapel because the Pope ordered him to. He also painted a couple of smaller biblical scenes, oil on canvas. Not much more.
Michelangelo Answer 2: It is true that Michelangelo painted the famous fresco of the 'Last Judgement' in the Sistine Chapel. However he did that in the years 1534 - 1541, when he was over 60 years old and very famous. It was, then, very far from his first painting.

Both its ceiling depicting Creation and the main wall with Judgment Day were painted by Michaelangelo. Answer 2 So much for Michelangelo's work. Then there are two series of frescos (Life of Christ and Life of Moses) along the walls, painted by Florentine artists as Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and more. Furthermore there is the Vatican paintings museum, which is a different question.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine and designed St. Peter's. St. Peter's is not painted in fresco but is done in mosics all through the basillica. Michelangelo did do the dome, but Bermini did the colonade ( 284 columns and 140 statues) and much of the intererior. The most famous of all statues is in San Pietro is the Pieta by Michelangelo that he begun in1498 as a 24 year old and is his only signed work. Directly under Michelangelo's dome is the Balacchino by Bermini. It is an amazing bronze canopy. Beneath this is St. Peter's tomb lit by 99 lamps along with a statue by Cambio from the late 1220's.

On the Sistine Chapel ceiling Michelangelo painted stories from the Old Testament. The most well known piece is God's creation of Adam, but this is only one small piece of the extensive work that covers 5,800 square feet. He divided the ceiling into 3 zones. The lowest zone contains the Biblical ancestors of Christ, set off by zig zagging bands. Heroic episodes from the Bible fill the corners. The second zone has Old Testament prophets and enthroned sibyls. The third zone runs down the center, nine separate panels tell the story of Genesis. He also painted one wall with a scene of the 'Last Judgement'.
