For stains on walls I usually use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It isn't harsh or abrasive and really cleans off just about anything (including sharpie marker).

DO NOTS: Bleach can change the color of the wall and in some cases strip the paint. Brillo Pads are just too abrasive and can strip paint. 409, Orange Clean, Windex, and Simple Green or just not strong enough to clean off stains or can have a reaction with the wall paint.

Why was The White House colored white?

In 1812 the British burned the white house in the War of 1812. When it was repaired it was painted white. Paint was very expensive in the 1800's so to have a whole house painted white was very unusual and soon when asked about where the president lived they would refer to the "white house". The name stuck and now it is tradition to call it the White House.

Their painted white because darker colours attract more heat, meaning they get hotter, faster. White, being the opposite of the darkest colour/shade, black, would then keep whatevers inside the house cooler than in a dark/black house. Does that help?
