The Constitution allowed for the creation of an army, it allowed for the coinage of money, it established a federal judiciary, it permitted the federal government to enter into treaties and trade agreements as one nation rather than as a piece of thirteen separate fiefdoms. The Constitution made the federal government the sun and the states the planets, rather than the other way around.

The US Constitution gave the central federal government much more power, which was needed to act for the country as a whole.

Under the Articles of Confederation, the United States was similar to today's European Union. Many different countries that decided to work together. Most states had their own currencies, taxes, and laws. The federal government had minimal if any power.

The Constitution established the United States as a single nation under one federal government that had the exclusive power to coin money, set federal law, form an army, and regulate interstate trade.
