you cannot check fluid level in a slave cylander. if cylander is not working properly. you either have air in it and need to bleed it,or cylander is defective and needs replacing
The light may be the low fluid level for the master cylinder also. Check the fluid level.
The brakes and clutch share the same reservoir.
Four Possible reasons... Low brake fluid - check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder Emergency brake is on - check emergency brake Low brake fluid pressure - such as a broken brake line or a bad wheel cylinder. Check the master cylinder to see if it is empty. If you add fluid and pump the pedal you will probably see brake fluid on the ground or on the inside of the tires. Possibly a bad master cylinder. - The fluid will stay full but you will have no or little brake pressure. Could be air in the system as well. BE CAREFUL If you happen to add power steering fluid or transmission fluid to the master cylinder instead of brake fluid you will destroy the system. Make sure you use ONLY brake fluid and clean the master cylinder cap off with a clean rag first so no dirt gets into the braking system.
Check brake fluid level in master cylinder when cold (fluid expands when heated) Make sure parking brake is fully released
Should be a plug at the side of the transmission - fill to this level

Check your brake fluid level in your brake master cylinder in the engine compartment and see if it is down.
I believe Ford calls it the " brake fluid level sensor "
Check coolant level
look at the level in the master cylinder near the firewall.
Low brake fluid level or a stuck brake fluid level sensor. Check the brake fluid level and if it is ok, tap on the master cylinder reservoir with your finger
To check the fluid in a manual transmission of a 1991 Ford Ranger, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface. Locate the fill plug on the side of the transmission; it typically requires a wrench to remove. Insert a finger into the hole; the fluid level should be just below the fill hole. If necessary, add the appropriate transmission fluid until it reaches the correct level.
Most likely brake fluid. Check the master cylinder level.
The brake fluid master cylinder resivoir is located on the drivers side next to the firewall. Look at it and you can see the level.
Check the level of the fluid in the clutch slave-cylinder reservoir under the hood at the firewall on the driver's side. Make sure it is full of clean brake fluid.
Should be a plug at the side of transmission - fill to this level
