If there were no camera, the process of capturing visual images would not be possible. Cameras are optical instruments that record images by capturing light onto a photosensitive surface. Without cameras, we would not have the ability to document events, create art, or preserve memories through visual imagery. The development of cameras has revolutionized the way we communicate and share information visually.

Without the inventions of cameras, our knowledge of what happened in the time of cameras would be very limited, for example, we wouldn't know what kinds of jobs the children had to do, and what kinds of working conditions they had to go through. We wouldn't know what kinds of clothes people wore, what kinds of homes they lived in, what kinds of activities they did, without cameras we would have to use our imagination from our knowledge of the books and journals written by people from those times. We also wouldn't have the video camera made, and without the video camera we wouldn't have movies or televisions, so really, the camera was the base of all of our visional technology, leaving out the telephone of course. :)

People today rely on cameras as much as they do having the telephone. If there were no cameras, people might:

• try to learn drawing methods
• use sketches or portraits more as a communication method
• learn to hold memories in "the mind's eye" versus holding them on paper
• rely on their sense of sight more
• be more in tune with their perceptions of what they see
• notice more about colors and details
• need to describe colors and details with words versus pictures
• notice their vocabulary increases, especially for use of adjectives
