Most regular paints are too caustic to be used on a person's face. If you are painting the faces of people, specifically children always use paints recommended for that use.

I would use face paint that you find from Michaels. They also have tutorials online and stencils and ideas you can use.

Toy stores, costume stores and places like Spencer's sell face paint sets. You can use that, or regular makeup if you can find the colors you like. But I'd use face paint rather than regular makeup--doing it with regular makeup would get expensive fast.
