It's cheaper until the hose breaks and you must buy a new one. I'm using some 10 year old sections of hose along with newer pieces; when one pops a hole I replace it with a new piece, and while we've had to get a new vacuum three times, I've still got a boxful of the hoses that came with each. Hope that makes sense.
yes
The continuous one piece hose will create a drag and will not be as flexible as original equipment. And the unit may even stop working or stop cleaning all areas of the pool. The pool cleaning aperatus is designed to work with what the manufacturer built for the unit. It will also not meet the requirements as pertaining to the hydraulics inside the hose. Just not a good idea.

A steam cleaner could clean your grout for you. I'd be less expensive if you already have one, but if you don't, it would probably be cheaper to hire someone you can find for cheap to clean the grout.
That would be the Barracuda
