I don't really understand the question WHY. Pople who have talent and the urge become painters. And that goes for all of them
The only artist that seems relevant to this is Kib Bramhall. "http://www.cravengallery.com/bramhall.html" as far as anchient painters and such I don't believe there is one. (your question wasn't very specific sorry D: )

I'm sort of having trouble on this question, too, but after reading an article, the topics that Socrates considered important for discussion were democracy, patriosm, and religion. Again, I'm not really sure if this is the right answer but hope helps :)
