If you adjust RMR per Kg body-weight children will have higher resting metabolic rates. Now it gets tricky, children also have a greater surface area to mass ratio. If we adjust now for surface area the RMR in children and adults become similar. The same principle accounts for the different RMRs in mice and elephants (Kleibers law)!
