Ink is unmatched for finalizing line art. You can apply different thicknesses and textures with the right pen. However, "forgiving" is not my first choice of description. Any medium of ink can smear, splatter, and if you make a mistake it is near impossible to fix. But don't let this discourage you - pen and ink simply need a keen eye and steady hand to use well. If you are planning to draw something with ink, always do your outline in pencil first to finalize your design and avoid errors or do-overs.
