Clay, as in masks or mud baths can be soothing to the skin. Many spas provide services involving clay and other botanicals. To eat, clay is not too good. It is low in nutritional value and can carry more germs by being a natural-earth product. Also, human bodies have evolved to eat what we consider "food". That is not normally clay, so whatever clay you eat could cause digesting or stomach issues.
