...or maybe. If you have just undergone strenuous exercise or a sports activity, or are incredibly frightened, or have just avoided being hit by a bus, your heart will naturally beat faster to provide increased oxygen necessary to other body functions needed under stress or emergency. Under extreme conditions it can actually thump so hard you can hear it.
However, it should not do this normally. If you are concerned, see a doctor.
