After the first week or so they should quit. If you come back from home to get them or don't leave them because they cry you are just reinforcing the behavior and not helping your child to adjust. I know it is hard, but you need to tell them they will be all right, will have fun, and you will be back later. Separation anxiety is very common in young children.
