Use a high-quality chalkboard paint and apply at least two coats, allowing each coat to dry completely. Once the paint is dry, condition the chalkboard by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and then erasing it. Your chalkboard wall is now ready to use!

Tape off the edges and any areas you don't want to paint. Apply the chalkboard paint in thin, even coats, allowing each coat to dry completely. Once the paint is dry, season the chalkboard by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk all over the surface and then wiping it off.
