The second tale is a variation on the first; Zeus fathered a child with the titaness Metis. Upon learning of a old prophecy which foretold any son of Metis would be more powerful than it's father, Zeus went to the pregnant woman and swallowed her whole. He then later suffered a severe headache, allowing Hephaestus to strike open his skull, and the fully grown Athena emerged.
