I think it depends on the store, I know in my town in NE Florida, they took them out because two idiots took some clothing from the boys department and set them on fire and threw them into the sporting goods section where the ammo was and they evacuated the store and arrested the pair. They may have taken them out of all of them because of this or it surely be revisted as a company liability.

Walmart is gradually taking firearms out of the stores. At this time the plan is to be completely firearm free by a certain year. Of course customer feedback will determine if the stores will completely firearm free as originally planned or if a few stores will still keep these (it is highly unlikely that firearms will be in any Walmart store after the planned date).
