The pulmonary vein
The aorta is the vessel that carries oxygenated blood from the heart. In contrast, the pulmonary artery is the vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the heart.
Oxygenated blood enters the heart in the pulmonary vein. It passes through the left ventricle, before exiting in the aorta.
Arteries Cary oxygenated blood. This is usually to organs or muscles with the exception of the pulmonary artery wich carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.
The word "pulmonary" refers to the lungs, so the pulmonary vein is a blood vessel that runs from the lungs to the heart. It carries oxygenated blood, which is unusual for veins, which (apart from this one) transport de-oxygenated blood to the heart. The pulmonary artery does the opposite: unlike other arteries, it carries de-oxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
The vessel that carries blood from the heart to the lungs is called the pulmonary vein. It is one of the few veins that carry oxygenated blood to the heart. The oxygenated blood enters the atrium of the heart.
