Arranging the figures of the infant Jesus, the Virgin Mary, the child John the Baptist, and the angel in a type of triangle or pyramid gives the painting a feeling of stability, and gives the viewer's eyes direction when looking at the painting, following the lines created by the triangle/pyramid.

There is no way of knowing. Leonardo visited Rome at about the time that Michelangelo was commissioned to do work for the pope. Leonrdo may have wanted some such work. Soon after he left Rome.
Leonardo da Vinci employed several techniques to enhance realism in "The Last Supper." He utilized linear perspective, drawing the viewer's eye towards Christ at the vanishing point, which creates depth. Additionally, his use of chiaroscuro, or the contrast between light and shadow, added dimension to the figures, making them more lifelike. Leonardo also meticulously captured the emotions and gestures of each apostle, adding to the scene's dramatic realism.

One difference is that Michelangelo preferred sculpture to painting. In painting Leonardo sought the means to make painted figures seem real. For Michelangelo it was important to have his figures look great and awe-inspiring.
