The level curves form loops around the maximum point. As height increases the

loops become tighter. Similarly the curves squeeze to the lowest point as height decreases.

When might two contour lines cross?

Contour lines don't really "cross" if we consider them strictly. But they can "merge" at a point where there is an abrupt change in elevation, as a cliff. Let's look at things a bit more closely. If we map a hill with one side cut straight down by something like a quarry or the action of a river, we'd see contour lines on a map coming together to "merge" along the face of the cliff. There are "multiple elevations" represented by the face of the cliff, and two or more lines might become one line along what is the cliff face on our map.

On a toptgraphic map contour lines that from a circle indicate?

All of the points along the line are the same elevation. The answer he wants is for novanet..meaning this answer is irrelevant Dx

How do you find the slope between two locations on a topographic map?

. Lay a strip of paper along a line across the area where the profile is to be constructed.b. Mark on the paper the exact place where each contour, stream and hill top crosses the profile line.c. Label each mark with the elevation of the contour it represents.d. Prepare a vertical scale on profile paper by labeling the horizontal lines corresponding to the elevation of each index contour line.e. Place the paper with the labeled contour lines at the bottom of the profile paper and project each contour to the horizontal line of the same elevation.f. Connect the points.

What is a contour interval?

EDITED 1/8/16: A contour interval is a the elevation difference between two adjacent contour lines. Previous person put some ridiculous answer. This one is the correct answer on APEX and does not need improvement.
