If Trump can win enough votes in the primaries to clinch the nomination on the first ballot. there will be no choice but to declare Trump the nominee. If he does not win the first ballot, my guess is that the Republicans will nominate somebody else but I could be wrong.

In the Wikipedia article about the election, there is no mention of any other Republicans running for President. At the Republican convention, Grant was elected unanimously on the first ballot.
