Rivera decided to incorporate portraits of Lenin and Trotsky into the work, which, did not sit well with his employers. The commission was cancelled and the unfinished mural taken down. In 1934, he re-painted the mural for the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. This version was entitled Man, Controller of the Universe
