Sort of like an autograph is a signature of a person and helps identify them, an autographic line is a signature of their work and helps identify it as theirs. For example, short, free, expressive brush strokes were a signature of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings (think The Starry Night). Thus, this type of line was autographic for Van Gogh.
