Art museums are designed to collect and display significant pieces of art. Some art museums also collect information on artists. A museum owns many pieces of art, called a collection, and only displays a fraction of the collection.

The Palace of Versailles was built as an expression of Louis XIV's absolute power. Louis used approxiamtely 60% of France's total revenue to build the palace. Some portions of the palace took 28 years to complete. The Palace could house between 5,000 to 6,000 people. Louis had the nobles of France live with him in the Palace to keep them under his watch and deter them from partcipating in politics. In today's currency the Palace of Versailles took approxiamtely $2 Billion dolllars. Hope that helps?

Here's 5 fascinating facts about the Musée du Louvre:

1. It has a thousand year history and was originally built as a fortress in the Middle Ages.

2. Of course, it's home to The Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

3. Louvre experts consider the works of Rembrant, Rubens and Vermeer (which are found in the Dutch, Flemish and German galleries to be some of the most important in the museum.

4. You can save time in the line-up by using the Galerie du Carrousel entrance (take the stairs found in the Tuileries near the Arc du Carrousel) instead of the Louvre pyramid.

5. The Louvre Museum is open from 9 am to 6 pm, with late nights on Wednesdays and Fridays (open until 9:45pm). The Louvre is closed Tuesday, Christmas Day, January 1 and May 1.

6. Bonus Fact. All Paris museums including the Louvre are free to people who are disabled. If you are disabled, you can go to the front of the line and given free access.
