She founded the Ninety-Nines a nationwide- later world wide association of women aircraft pilots, in l929. Please understand this was and is not a Charity like the Salvation Army or Volunteers of America, but was and is an organized lobby. Amelia Earhart was not directly active, as far as is known in Charitable activities once an Aviatrix, she did have some settlement-house work before this, and was a Nurse"s Aid at a VA hospital during and slightly after the War- World War I. she may have met airmen in the VA and thus indirectly fueled her interest in aviation. Again let us not confuse Amelia with charity-type heroines such as Clara Barton ! Ruth Nichols, another aviatrix was busily involved in what was called Relief Wings, which would be considered a charitable org using aircraft for logistics purposes, flood relief, etc, ferrying medical supplies.=In other words- a Charity Flight operation, but not per se, Amelia.
