Claude Monet's father disapproved of his art because he had aspirations for his son to pursue a more stable and conventional career, such as working in the family grocery business. Monet's passion for painting was seen as impractical and unrespectable, leading to conflict between the artist and his father. Despite this disapproval, Monet remained committed to his artistic vision, ultimately becoming a key figure in the Impressionist movement.
