a general contractor is one group or person in charge of the construction project. The GC will be responsible for all the contractors to do what is needed and in the correct order and timing. other wise you will need to gather the electricians and hvac, and drywall and plumbers, framers, roofers, concrete, masons, windows, cabinets........ each of these may be done by a different entity and need to be scheduled when and where to be.
