Because it prevents deoxygenated blood from mixing with oxygenated blood, since the left ventricule is used to pump the oxygenated blood in the body, and the right ventricule is used to pump the deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Also, it allows the heart to create 2 different blood pressure in the body. Since the length of the pulmonary blood systeme is shorter, the right ventricule pumps less harder to create less pressure, and therefore protects the small capillars in the lungs.
However since the left ventricule pumps blood in all the body, it must pump harder to generate enough pressure to push the blood in all those vessels.

The Atria and Ventricles are parts of the heart not the blood. The Atria is the upper chambers of the heart and the Ventricles are the lower chambers of the heart.
The human body has four different ventricles. They are the heart, veins, arteries, and capillaries. They are included in the circulatory and reperatory systems. By: Kitakat4145
If I am not wrong the lower two chambers of the heart are called as ventricles i.e. left ventricle and right ventricle while the upper two chambers of the heart are called as atria( plural of atrium) i.e. left atrium and right atrium.
The ventricular system is composed of two lateral ventricles and two midline ventricles, referred to as the third and fourth ventricles

Most have one that is partially divided into two sub-chambers. This division can also be considered to be two ventricles. Crocodiles have a two ventricles that are completely divided from each other.
Two lateral ventricles, third ventricles and the forth ventricles produce the cerebrospinal fluid.
The lower heart chambers are ventricles. Atria are the upper chambers of the heart.

I believe this would be your heart because that is the only time ventricles and atria are brought up.
