short: no food, no clean water, communications were down, lack of medical aid, ports and roads closed, spread of disease, deaths and injuries are short term, fires, destroyed buildings, gas supply effected.
long: debt to other countries - from borrowing money to rebuild, everythings needs to be rebuilt so prehaps stronger more 'earthquake proof' houses etc. a better emeregency plan for families ie. plans for the future in case of other disaters, spread of disease - may cause medical problems to run thourgh generations (like what happened when there was a nuclear bomb dropped in Japan), jobs may be created as there will be a great need in the construction industry for rebuilings to take place.
People in Haiti are in such bad poverty and cant afford anything while so many people died and are still suffering.
The Hanshin earthquake brings on the same short-term and long-term effects as most other natural disasters. The areas affected will see a strong influx of income as the area rebuilds, and in the long run, this income will provide a more reliable, productive economy.
It depends on your connotation of "earthquake." If by earthquake you mean just the period when the earth's motion can be traced to a specific event, the Hatian earthquake lasted about 45 seconds. If however, you mean the period between when the earth's motion caused damage and when that damage is no longer felt in the live of the all people affected by it, the earthquake is still ongoing. Many Hatian people live in tents away from cities and are out of work. Many have had their homes completely desroyed while others have homes still standing with damage and the owners fear if they return another earthquake will cause a collapse.
no time ....
The 2010 Chilean earthquake lasted 90 seconds.

the long term effects are seismic waves which are little earthquakes after thr REAL earthquake; they will go on for who knows how long....the short terms the length of the REAL earthquake the truth is no one knows how long it will take to recover from Haiti it might take years it might take more or less.......just help in whatever way you can!!!
about 30 seconds
It will take a long time because Haiti is very poor. No one will for get about Haiti
Yar mar
it is about 5 to 6 hours.
If you mean has Haiti recovered from the earthquake in January 2010, as of March 2010, no, Haiti has not recovered yet. There is a lot of damage from the earthquake and Haiti being a poor country, it will be a long time before it can recover.
According to some witnesses it was about 35 seconds.
