The timing marks are for referance on where the cam and crank are to be positioned. The Lanos has marks on each of the timing gears. There is a notch to line up on the bottom (crank/ little cut out in the pan) and up top, the intake at 9 and exhaust at 3 O clock (lined up with the valvue cover). Not a great explaination but hopefully this helps. Actualy I told you wrong on the cam marks, they should line up with each other (pointing to each other along the lines of the cam bolts)
Yes If you know that it is broke don't attempt to start it or you cause more harm if harm isn't already caused
If you are using a new gasket, no.
check your accelerator...
The vehicle has a timing chain that keeps the camshaft spinning correctly relative to the crankshaft. It also has a serpentine belt (what used to be known as fan belts) that operates the AC compressor, alternator, air pump, and water pump. Some people still call serpentine belts a timing belt even though it has no effect on engine timing. Many 4 cylinder engines use a timing belt in place of a chain. I think this is where the confusion starts.
This truck has a timing chain, not a belt. The chain will last longer than a belt and should not be replaced until it fails.

The ecm is located under the front passenger seat on my wife's 2000 Daewoo Lanos. This is an American version of the car.
To check the transmission fluid on a Daewoo Lanos 2000 you have to get to the back side of the engine from underneath. The way we did it was to put the car on a lift.
the two cams must be at 12oclock and the crank must be at 6oclock
