The epicenter of the Los Angeles Earthquake on July 29, 2008 was in Chino Hills. Initial reports claimed that the earthquake was a 5.6 or 5.8 earthquake, though we now know it was a 5.4. The areas immediately around Chino Hills felt the quake the most. This includes the cities of Pomona, Yorba Linda, and Diamond Bar. People working the areas of downtown LA (approximately within 30-40 miles of each other) were evacuated from buildings. People in the South Bay (also within 30-40 miles of each other) were also evacuated from buildings. Though reports from Downtown LA and South Bay both say the earthquake wasn't as bad as initial reports made it out to be. People in San Diego and Las Vegas also reported feelings quakes that are believed to be aftershocks from the Chino Hills quake. Look at the Earthquake Report in the Related Links section to learn more about what areas were hit and at what intensity. Luckily, there were no deaths reported and all injuries sustained were minor. There was also no major damage sustained to any structures.
