If it is muscle pain, I would expect you to have severe pain with moving your shoulder through a full range of motion... Pulling/pushing would also cause a lot of pain in that area. If you get the pain when you take a deep breath, then I would think more along the lines of pleuracy, a condition usually caused by a virus. With either of the above, I would certainly urge you to see a physician, PA, or NP...

∙ 11y agoYou may have a strained muscle in that general area. There can be several possible strains and musculoskeletal problems causing the pain. Or this could be referred pain from the gall bladder or other organs that have innervation from the same level of the spine. Referred pain is not completely understood, but basically it happens most often with internal organs. Many do not have pain sensors the way skin does. So if there is infection or trauma or some kind of problem, we don't hurt in that organ but in some nearby area. For instance when you have a bladder infection the pain may be in the lower back. When the gall bladder is not working properly or has some inflammatory process going on, the pain is often *referred to" either one of the shoulder blades, the middle of the back, or the bottom rib on the right side. You might suspect the gall bladder is causing the pain if you any of the other symptoms mentioned the next article. Pay attention to when you have it. Does it occur after you eat, maybe several hours after a meal? esp if you eat a heavy or fatty meal? Then it could be the gall bladder. There may be some other possibilities I'm not thinking of right now. You should have it checked by an MD.
