Probably carrier bearings in the rear differential. I have an 05 GC with similar noise and am very suspect that this is the case. These are not too difficult to replace but the axles must be extracted enough to remove the carrier assembly and remove the worn bearings from each end. The outer races will fall out of the housing. The placement of the carrier is critical since it is adjusted for the wear pattern and backlash of the ring gear and pinion. This dimension can be measured at a convenient point and returned to that dimension on reassembly.

There are lots of possibilities, none particularly good unless it's just some road debris stuck under the vehicle. It could be a bad wheel bearing, broken or worn out brake parts, a blown rear end or bent/broken axle (if rear wheel drive), an exhaust leak, etc. The only thing for certain, is that you should diagnose and repair it sooner than later, or take it to your favourite mechanic to do so.

Why does my Car makes loud noise when accelerating?

Could be a number of things. Is the noise coming from your transmission, your rear differential, one of the wheels? From the wheels it could be a warped rotor or a wheel bearing failing.

What kind of noise does a wheel bearing make when it goes bad?

The answer to this one is dependant on front or rear and weather or not the car is front or rear drive. A typical bearing on the front of a rear drive car is a tapered roller type. A growling noise when the effected side is loaded with weight as in a turn may come and go as the vehicles weight is shifted from side to side. The rear bearings on a late model vehicle that is rear drive are mostly a non tapered roller design. These bearings usually begin with a whine in early stages of failure and progress to a growl as damage increases. As for the front drive vehicle, growling noise is typical for both front and rear bearings. The rear because they are tapered roller as discussed earlier, and the front because they are usually a ball bearing type which load differently than the roller type.

Why is your car making a loud noise when it is being driven?

I own a 1990 Geo metro. Around town it was fine, but at Highway speeds there was an awful roaring sound. what I discovered was that the rear wheel ball bearings grease had dried out and the bearings were making the noise. I replaced them with a new set from the parts store and the noise has not returned.

Can a bad rear differential be dangerous?

A bad rear differential causes vibration, noise, and fluid leaks. This can impact a car's acceleration and driveability, and cause very serious problems if not addressed.

Bad wheel bearing is a possibility.

What would make a car make a roaring noise while driving down the road?

That really depends on the location of the roar. front of vehicle could be the cooling fan, bad wheel bearings, worn engine bearings, aggressive tread in tires. rear might be exhaust noise, aggressive tires, worn rear end. You might also just have a plastic bag stuck under the car.
