It could be a number of different things; if the radio and other electrical things work with the key to acc. then it is most likely not electrical. It would be best to take it to a mechanic and have them scan it to see what is wrong. Hope this helps.

passlock has been activated you have to turn the key to the on position for 10 minutes for the computer to reset but it may take up to thirty minutes or longer to crank sometimes.

It should post a code when the check engine light comes on after initial engine start. Use a suitable code reader/scanner to see what codes have posted, that should give you some idea what is wrong.

A malfunction indicator light comes on because a detector elsewhere in the item has noticed a malfunction in whatever it is monitoring.
You have to have the codes read to know the possible causes.
