The Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, NY is generally considered the #1 culinary school , with Johnson and Wales coming in right behind. There are several regional schools that are also very good.
There are certainly chefs who work outdoors, but by and large, most chefs work indoors...in the kitchen.

As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, there are approximately 250 active Master Chefs in the United States. This designation is awarded by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) and requires chefs to pass rigorous exams and demonstrate exceptional culinary skills. The number of Master Chefs can fluctuate as new chefs achieve certification and others retire or leave the profession.
The military can help with their education in culinary training. They train them to be a chef for the military and that can count as culinary training.
