Michelangelo Buonarrotti (1475-1564) was a sculptor and painter, and designed architectural facades.

Michelangelo is best known for his creation of the paintings that adorn the ceiling and altar walls of the Sistine Chapel - the ceiling being a scene from Genesis and the Altar walls mural representing The Last Judgment. He also sculpted several famous statues including "David" and "The Pietà" (the latter currently located in Vatican City).
