What did monks do for entertainment?

Monks had many jobs such as writing books on science, philosophy, poetry, religion and even on public complaints. some where teachers, risch landowners and even the most powerful people in the country. most monks on the other hand where religious people who lived in a building called a monastery and attended eight church services every day.

Many monks actually did gamble and they got a lot of money from that. They believed that because they were workers of God that they could do sinful things without being punished. They also got money from selling produce ( chicken,fruit) at the market stalls and from donations that the King and other rich people ( like Barons and Lords) would give to church. :) hope this helps

Monks do not have spare time; they are too busy praying and meditating.

Some of my friends who are Catholic monks like to participate in Operas in their spare time, and others like to cook and bake for friends. It is up to the individual what he wants to do in his spare time. Some orders are more strict than others on the amount of time a monk has to himself, and on what he is allowed to do with it.

Washing and cooking for the monastery. Raising the necessary supplies of vegetables and grain. Reaping, Sowing, ploughing, Binding and Thatching, Hay making and Threshing. Producing wine, ale and honey. medical care for the community. Providing education for boys and novices. Copying the manuscripts of classical authors.
