you give it a small mouse every once in a while. but if it dosent eat it than give him a big small or medium cricket depending on its size YOU GET TWO STICKS AND PUT THEIR FOOD ON ONE STICK AND LET THEM EAT IT. IF IT SARTS TO EAT THE STICK THEN USE THE OTHER STICK TO GENTLEY PUSH IT AWAY. If your snake is between 0-9 months old feed an appropriately sized* item every 5 days.

If your snake is between 9-12 months feed an appropriately sized* item every 6 days.

If your snake is between 1-3 years feed it an appropriately sized* item every 10 days

this is actually a complicated question. depending on where the garter snakes habitat is and the other animals that make up its food chain, a garter snakes diet can vary in three ways. some garter snakes eat fish and frogs if they live near water, some can eat mice or rats if they live in a plain or Forrest, some can even eat slugs and worms! but most fall into the general category where they will eat almost any of the above they can find.

Wild snakes can be tricky. There not used to being in captivity so give it some time. Try giving them feeder guppies from a pet store my wild garters go crazy for them. Also most garter snakes wont refuse earthworms but make sure their nightcrawlers. Also its VERY hard to starve a snake so when they get hungry enough they will eat. Hope this helped
