That is a good question. Everyone who answers questions here on answers.com is a volunteer and has some kind of political persuasion, or none at all. I answer Democrats questions and consider myself a conservative Democrat.
You ask a question about a portion of the Democratic party. A caucus perhaps. People who are "left wing" Democrats. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, I think, fits into that description. Persons that President Lyndon Johnson called "Professional Liberals."
What does the left wing resemble? Not much different from all Americans I suspect. Nothing like the 'Socialists' label given by so many haters and chronic complainers; professional complainers, if you will.
Really, when you boil things down, the two parties are not that much different. Witness the bi-partisanship over the recent NSA revelations. The parties as a whole differ only around the edges and the left wing of the Democratic Party is in some part one of those edges.
It looks like the democrats will win right now.
Most Military are more conservative in their political beliefs and have respect for our institutions. They are clearly not the Democrats constituency.
As of now, the Democrats in the US Senate lost 8 seats to the Republicans. There will be more Republicans in the Senate, now, than Democrats, meaning the the Republicans will control the Senate. They already control the House.
There are 2 main political parties in the US, the Republicans and the Democrats. The Democrats are in charge of the Executive Branch. In the Legislative Branch, there are 2 houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. In the House of Representatives the Republicans have control, but in the Senate the Democrats have control. In the Judicial Branch there are 4 accepted conservatives (republicans) and 3 accepted liberals (democrats) the remaining 2 vote both ways; so it can be said that Republicans have the judicial branch.
As of May 2014, there are 53 Democrats in the US Senate and 45 Republicans. There are also two independents, Bernie Sanders of VT and Angus King of ME, who are not members of either political party. However, they caucus with the Democratic Party, meaning, for purposes of committees and such, they "count as" Democrats.
Left wing= Democratic Right wing= Republican
the left wing
On the back, look to the left of the eagles wing.
The Democrats hold a majority in the Senate.
US Republican Party became a conservative political party in the 1950s and 1960s as the Democratic Party broke between the northern Democrats, who were more left-wing and became the Democratic Party of today, and the southern Democrats or Dixiecrats, who were much more conservative in their viewpoints, especially on the question of legal equality between Whites and Blacks. As the northern Democrats pushed for expanding welfare programs, the war on drugs, and the Civil Rights Movement, the Republican leadership realized that it could capitalize on the divide between Democrats and capture the Dixiecrat vote by becoming more conservative.
In the crazy, fantasy world of the right wing republicans. Fear and smear are typical right wing tactics, used since R.M. Nixon, to try and win elections.
Because most people who criticize "right wingers" are Socialistic Democrats, who as we have seen in the past, are very stupid people. Everyone knows the Republican party, made up of fiscal conservatives, people who care about life, ending US's slavery etc. are just plain smarter people.... You're welcome!
Republican Party
Following the US Civil War, the radical wing of the Republican Party retained the control over the US Congress they had when the war began. After the war, the Democrats and moderate Republicans were not united in any meaningful fashion. This left the radicals to put forth their own agenda concerning Reconstruction Era policies in the South.
Generally speaking, the Left-wing in the US tends to oppose participation in wars.
