To me it means a few things combined. The crow represents the bird that was forgotten. A sense of failure, like in the old testiment when Noah sent out a raven and it never returned failing its test, while the dove succeeded and has been long remembered. The skull represents death, whether it be a near death experience or a struggle, or a loved one lost. I have that tattooed with roses underneath to represent the hope you can have by overcoming your struggles. I battled through thoughts of suicide and my tattoo of the crow on top of the skull with roses is a reminder that though I've struggled with thoughts of suicide and failed so many times there's always hope for the ones who have had it rough.

read my friend.. the skull and crossbones dates back to the 1690's. "The design was originally used on tombstones and was referred to as the "death's head". In these early carvings, the skull is often grinning, an indication that death is the release from all earthly troubles and the passing on to a better place. The skull and wings was a symbol of good luck. Today, for thousands of bikers around the world, the skull and wings is still a symbol of good luck and happy journeys."

A skull with wings, is a death bat. A symbol for the rock/metal band Avenged Sevenfold. A death bat is Avenged sevenfold's album art cover, and is the bands trademarked logo. Hope that helps.

What does a skull with bat wings mean on tombstone mean?

The skull with bat wings which is also called a "death bat" is the logo of rock band AVENGED SEVENFOLD. This is true, but I have a tattoo of Overkills noted mascot, Chaly, around my wrist - A skull with batwings (Overkill which ironically is another way of saying Avenge Sevenfold) I had the tattoo far before A/S came out, But I'm assuming they are paying some type of homage to Overkill. check wiki for Overkill and you'll find more answers.

What does the skull symbol mean?

Death The Crystal Skull is a representation of life and Human consciousness, and the Skull Effigy is the honoring of life. The Harley-Davidson Skull and Wings logo represents Death as that honoring of life. The H-D Skull is the reminder that we are here on Earth for our soul purpose, to manifest our destiny. The wings represent freedom. Freedom to use one's own free-will to make our choices, and to discover the Truth. "And you will the know the truth, and that very truth will make you free". This is what a Harley represents -- the freedom of the open road, and all paths leading to the same place. Life and Death enmeshed in the eternal bondage of becoming free.

What does a skull and cross bones on a headstone mean?

Hi there. In my line of business people often ask about symbolism and what it means when certain things are inscribed on a gravestone. Generally, the skull and crossbones just stands for mortality or death while a skull with wings refers to ascension to heaven. There are many gravestone symbols that through symbolism make a statement about the person buried there. For instance, a engraved Easter lily symbolizes purity.
