When the puck is in the attack zone, the defenseman's job is primarily to guard the blue line and keep the puck from crossing it, ceasing any offensive momentum your team had. Sometimes a defenseman may want to contribute more to the offense, so he will go deeper into the zone to give the forward a passing option or even take a shot on goal and increase his chances of scoring.
