The artist's name was Norman Henry French, hence the inscription 'NF'. I have never seen him listed as such however and I only know what I know following exhaustive reserch. He was born in 1908 and was not a 19th century artist as suggested. I belive he was born in the UK but died in the US. He painted predominantly townscapes of Venice and Holland in the style of the Italian and Dutch masters of the 17th and 18th century.
