Use a fork, plastic or otherwise, and scratch/score the surfaces of the clay parts you intend to join. Then, use your slip, which is just clay that is soaked in water and therefore like mud, over the same surfaces which you have scored. Join the pieces together by pressing the scored and slipped surfaces together.
Terracotta is an earthenware clay. It contains, in addition to the usual clay minerals of alumnia and silica, a fair amount of iron oxide, which gives it the characteristic red colour.
Bricks are typically red due to the presence of iron oxide in the clay used to make them. When fired in a kiln, this iron oxide gives bricks their distinctive red color. The color can also be influenced by the temperature at which the bricks are fired.

I have seen clay of several colours - red, brown , murky yellow, grey. There are probably other colours, too.
Clay can vary in color due to different minerals present in the soil where it was formed. For example, red clay contains iron oxide, giving it a reddish hue, while white clay is often caused by the presence of kaolin. Additionally, the firing process can also affect the color of clay, with higher temperatures generally resulting in darker colors.
