Yes, make sure there is no chicken broth in the ingredients.
You can't keep broth from being absorbed by dry ingredients such as pasta or grains (e.g. barley, rice, quinoa, etc.). And frankly, why would you want to? Most other ingredients used to make stock or broth (carrots, onions, celery, meats, etc.) usually give up their moisture to the broth. The best you can do to minimize absorption is to cook the dry ingredients in water in other containers and add them to your broth just before you serve it. The problem with that is that the pasta or grain won't share the broth's flavor. They'll taste "different" than the broth: usually less savory. Another remedy is to add lesser amounts of dry ingredients to where they don't affect the amount of broth as much.

You can use meat scraps to make broth or stock, add them to soups or stews, or use them in stir-fries or casseroles. This helps minimize waste and makes the most of your ingredients.
What I do to thicken liquids like broth is dissolve about 1-2 teaspoons in a bit of water to make a relatively thin paste and incorporate it into the broth. If it is not enough, increase the amount until you get your desired consistency.

To make flavorful rice in a rice cooker, try adding broth instead of water, seasoning with herbs and spices, and adding ingredients like garlic, onions, or vegetables for extra flavor. You can also try using coconut milk or different types of broth for a unique taste.

To make fish broth, simmer fish bones, vegetables, and seasonings in water for about 30-45 minutes. Strain the broth and use it as a base for soups or sauces.
I know of one recipe to make some delicious chili. The ingredients call for ground beef, beef broth, red/green peppers, black/kidney beans, onions, garlic, and corn. Slice your onions and garlic, add oil to a pot, and add the onions and garlic. Next, add the ground beef and cook until well done. Add the remaining ingredients and pour in the beef broth and let simmer for 30 minutes. Pour into bowls and serve. Sometimes I like to add pasta to the chili.
Yes and you can make a stock or broth out of almost anything.
