I am kind of an old salt. In my day we used the real thing...a Mercury "U" tube manometer. It measures inches of water or microns (1 1000 of a meter). In other practical needs, we used water drawn up a plastic pipe. Atmospheric pressure is about 15# or about 30' of water. We did this when drawing water out of shallow wells. Hope this helps.
